Laundry shop cash count: how to make your drawer match every night
By the Labahan team · October 18, 2026 · 3 min read
If your cash drawer is short at the end of the day and you don’t know why, you are not alone. The fix is a short routine done the same way every day, by whoever closes the shop.
The formula
GCash and Maya payments don’t go in the drawer, so keep them out of this count and check them against your e-wallet history instead.
A worked example
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Opening cash (change fund) | ₱1,000 |
| + Cash payments today (18 loads) | ₱4,350 |
| − Detergent bought from the drawer | ₱600 |
| − Refund for a cancelled load | ₱120 |
| Cash you should have | ₱4,630 |
| Cash counted at closing | ₱4,580 |
| Short | ₱50 |
GCash payments of ₱1,200 the same day are checked separately in the GCash app, not in the drawer.
A closing routine that works
- Start every day with the same opening cash, for example ₱1,000 in coins and small bills.
- Record each payment when you receive it, not at the end of the day from memory. Write the method: cash, GCash or Maya.
- Record every peso that leaves the drawer: supplies, merienda, refunds, rider fees. Keep the receipt.
- Count by denomination at closing, with one other person if possible.
- Compare with what you should have and write down the difference, even if it is ₱0.
- Look into any difference the same day, while everyone still remembers.
- Set the opening cash aside for tomorrow and deposit or keep the rest safe.
Common reasons the drawer is short
- A GCash or Maya payment recorded as cash.
- Change given wrongly during a busy hour.
- Small purchases from the drawer that were never written down.
- A load released without payment (“I’ll pay later”) and never recorded as a balance.
- A partial payment recorded as full.
How Labahan helps
In Labahan Manager, every payment is recorded with its method when the load is paid or released, including partial payments and balances. The Today screen shows cash sales, expenses paid from the drawer, refunds and the cash you should have, then you enter your count and see if you are short or over. Every GCash and Maya reference number is listed separately, and the app warns you if one was already used.
